Should I Submit My Cards?
Not every card needs restoration — and that's okay. Use the Blueprint Audit Formula to find out if your cards are a good fit for AWAKN TCG services.
The 3V Formula
Three questions. One clear answer. Before a card ever reaches our intake queue, run it through Value, Viability, and Vision — the same framework our lab uses to filter every submission.
The Financial or Sentimental Math
Before assessing damage, determine if the economics make sense. Every card must pass at least one of two tests.
Expected Graded Value minus Current Raw Value must exceed the cost of restoration. If cleaning a surface smudge bumps a vintage holo from a PSA 6 to a PSA 8, that value jump easily covers the lab fee.
If the card is a childhood centerpiece or a PC grail, financial ROI is irrelevant. The goal is preservation at any cost — and that's a completely valid reason to submit.
If the card is a $10 modern ultra with no sentimental value, it fails the audit. Don't submit it.
The Physics of the Damage
Clients often misdiagnose damage. This step teaches you the difference between Restorable and Fatal.
- Surface grime, wax, or print dust → Surface Clean
- Foil curling or minor structural bends → Prep
- Silvering or separation on the borders → Edge Lift Correction
- Soft surface impressions without ink disruption → Dent Reduction
- Ink-Breaking Creases: colored ink cracked to reveal white paper beneath — structure is permanently broken.
- Physical Tears or Punctures: missing paper cannot be organically replaced.
- Severe Water Damage: fully expanded, warped cardboard fibers cannot be compressed back to factory standards.
The End Strategy
Define your exact goal for the card. Your strategy dictates which AWAKN package you actually need.
Requires a full forensic surface clean and microscopic defect mitigation. Every detail matters — this is the full lab treatment.
You may just want an edge lift flattened so it slides into a side-loader nicely — skipping the deeper surface polishing. Targeted, efficient, cost-effective.
You need to know if the 5–10 day lab timeline fits your cash-flow schedule. Speed and ROI are the priority — we'll tell you upfront what's realistic.
Great Candidates for Restoration
These cards tend to see the biggest grade improvements after our services:
Surface Smudges & Fingerprints
Oils and light grime on the card face or back respond well to our professional surface cleaning process.
Minor Edge Lifting
Cards with slight edge or corner separation can often be corrected before grading, improving centering scores.
Light Dents & Pressure Marks
Shallow dents from storage or binder pressure are prime candidates for our dent reduction service.
Soft Wrinkles
Cards with minor wrinkles from humidity or improper storage can benefit from our wrinkle reduction treatment.
High-Value Cards Worth Grading
If the card's potential graded value justifies the cost of restoration, it's almost always worth submitting.
Pre-Grade Prep
Even cards in good condition benefit from a professional clean before PSA, BGS, or CGC submission.
Cards We Can't Help
Some damage is beyond restoration. We'll always be honest with you — here's what we can't fix:
Creases & Hard Folds
Deep creases that break the card's structure are permanent. Restoration cannot reverse structural damage.
Tears & Rips
Any physical tear or rip to the card stock cannot be repaired and will result in an Authentic grade at best.
Ink Loss or Fading
Missing or faded print ink is a manufacturing or age issue that cannot be restored.
Water Damage (Severe)
Heavy water damage that has warped the card stock or caused ink bleed is typically unrestorable.
Trimmed Cards
Cards that have been trimmed or altered will be flagged by grading companies regardless of surface condition.
Quick Self-Check
Run through these questions before submitting. If you answer yes to most, your card is likely a strong candidate.
- Is the card free of hard creases or folds?
- Is the card structurally intact — no tears or rips?
- Does the card have surface smudges, light scratches, or fingerprints?
- Are there minor dents, edge lifts, or soft wrinkles?
- Is the card's potential graded value $20 or more?
- Is the card original and unaltered (not trimmed or re-backed)?
